These two portraits are both oil on canvas and were commissions. The lady was from a tiny black and white photo around 60 years old and was rather a challenge.

I have started working with a palette knife on the background and I hope this will give the textural effect I am looking for - we will see.

I worked for a couple of hours on her head today. I am trying to think before making marks and save time on correcting ill- considered strokes with partial success.
